Football

Football is a team sport that is played between two teams, typically consisting of eleven players each. The objective of the game is to score goals by advancing a ball into the opposing team’s goal, primarily by using the feet, although any part of the body except the arms and hands can be used by players (except for the goalkeeper). Football is governed by a set of rules known as the Laws of the Game, established by the International Football Association Board (IFAB).

The sport is known by various names in different regions, with “soccer” being the term commonly used in countries like the United States and Canada to distinguish it from American football. Football can be played on various surfaces, including grass and artificial turf, and matches are typically played in two halves, each lasting around 45 minutes.

Football is one of the most popular sports globally and has numerous professional leagues, national competitions, and international tournaments, including the FIFA World Cup, which attracts millions of spectators and participants worldwide. The sport emphasizes teamwork, strategy, and skill, making it a dynamic and engaging form of athletic competition.
